I saw x3 win a race or two. Islip Speedway on Saturday night was THE place for stock cars and demo derby. Cool post! Good memories.

Great vid, lots of memories. I spent alot of saturday nights at Islip. I still have all the news letters with the scheduled events.I was there when Wide World of Sports was there around 1964.

What a great tribute to short track racing.
I really believe as a race fan that the true spirit of America lies somewhere in Saturday night short track racing and its people, fans and drivers alike. By losing all of what we are seeing here bit by bit we lost a big part of ourselves. Those who have known these great times and great people can only miss what will probably never come back to us.
Thank you for the good time.

  5. luftschutz Says:

Boy do i miss that track,Grew up in north babylon now in virginia.Seeing the name Jim Hendrickson brings back alot of memories.Cant remember how many times i seen him win.THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. ddarkshark Says:

grew up with islip speedway in my blood, when i was a kid my brother and i would cling to the fence above the guardrail and when the pack of modified blasted past we would revel in the roar of the engines, the bits of tires and stuff would hit us in the face as we deeply inhaled the smell of burning rubber, and some memorable illegal nitro fumes!–after those moments we knew no other sport
can ever compare to all types of auto racing!!! everything
else seems so slow and boring!! islip was great

  7. mtmasciale Says:

Wow, this really brings back memories. My dad took me to Islip Speedway every Saturday for many many many years. We sat in the same place very time. We brought a thermos of ovaltie a bucket of Chicken Delight (no longer exists) and a blanket for when it was chilly. I remember seeing the Chitwood Brothers Daredevil show many times and of course the largest Demolition Derby that was shown on ABC Wide World Of Sports. I now take my son to Riverhead and we sit in the same spot as me and my dad.
